CWMBRAN Celtic Ladies were back on the road on Sunday as they travelled to sunny Newcastle Emlyn hoping to pick up three points.

The game started in perfect fashion for Cwmbran when early on Anthony latched onto a great ball across goal from Murphy to give the visitors an early lead and Anthony her first goal of the season, writes Vicki Randall.

With a goal under their belts Cwmbran hoped to settle but couldn't get the ball on the deck and under control.

The hosts applied plenty of pressure of their own on the Cwmbran defence and forced themselves a corner which resulted in the equaliser. A great strike left Celtic keeper Walker unable to get a hand to the ball in time.

Cwmbran kept pressing up the field and earned themselves a number of corners and set pieces after fouls on Boyd. However nothing came from them as the Emlyn defence stood firm.

In fact it was Celtic's defence who were horribly unlucky when Rosser put the ball into her own net with an attempted goal line clearance and gave Newcastle Emlyn the advantage.

Cwmbran knew they could score more and Murphy was next to go close with a battle with her opposing player resulting in a near miss at the far post.

Half time saw the introduction of another striker for Celtic and Bradley was immediately in on the action when almost with her first touch she was fed in beautifully by Boyd to draw the game level.

Celtic looked the more promising in the opening stages of the second half as they started to play the ball around on the floor more and pull the Emlyn defence out of position.

The home team had their keeper to thank for keeping the score level when Murphy found herself one-on-one only to be halted by a save at her feet. Then it was Taylor who struck a decent shot at goal but failed to beat the out stretched keeper once again.

Murphy was beginning to cause havoc with her pace and again got herself in a another one-on-one position and unselfishly squared the ball to strike partner Bradley who skied it over the bar. A chance gone begging that Celtic hoped wouldn't come back to haunt them at the end.

The second half was a pretty dominant display from the visitors but with the score still level Cwmbran were working hard to break down the home teams defence.

With the Newcastle Emlyn keeper in fine form it looked likely that the points were going to be shared today. However it was Murphy who had the last say when another good ball through from Boyd left her in behind the defence and, this time, she slotted the ball past the oncoming keeper with a composed finish, to put the visitors 3-2 up.

The final stages saw Newcastle Emlyn pressure a Cwmbran in the hope of drawing level again but Cwmbran worked well as a team and were not about to surrender their three points.

Cwmbran face Aberystwyth at home on Sunday coming. Kick off is 2pm.
