WEIR Group yesterday announced plans to double sales of its standard design pumps to #36m over the next two-and-a-half years. The company's Glasgow-based subsidiary, Weir Pumps, sells about #100m of new pumps per year, most built to order for places such as power stations and water treatment plants.

The new strategy aims to increase sales of small standard design industrial pumps which can be bought off the shelf and used for a variety of purposes.

Sales of these standard pumps amount to #15m a year. Weir Pumps may also invest in new equipment to ramp up the

production of standard pumps at its factory in Cathcart.
