SOME of the names on a list of security guards hired for Dumbarton's #35,000 annual summer festival read like the cast from Reservoir Dogs, councillors heard.

Among those supposedly on duty at the two-week-long Lomond and Clyde Festival were Mr Brown, Mr Black and Mr White - all characters in the film.

Others on the 17-name list included Sally McCoist, Hugh Grant, Tommy Lee, and Tom Bell.

Between them they were paid #2527.

Details of the astonishing list were revealed yesterday when SNP councillor Ron McColl urged the Labour-controlled West Dunbartonshire Council to withdraw all funding and support to the festival until the office-bearers involved up to October 30 resigned.

The council, the main funder of the event with a #9500 grant, has been seeking detailed information on festival accounts and spending.

''We have had officers working for three months trying to trace fictitious names,'' said Councillor McColl. ''If this is not a mandate to get rid of the festival committee then I don't know what it is.''

Councillors have asked for a further report.

At an extraordinary general meeting of the festival committee last week, treasurer Martin Hollern said he was resigning, alleging a council witchhunt against him.
