BERN:

The Swiss President and Finance Minister, Mr Otto Stich, was rushed to

hospital yesterday after collapsing at a parliamentary committee

meeting. A government statement said Mr Stich, 67, was on a respirator

after a cardio-vascular collapse but his condition was said to be

stable. Mr Stich, 67, is the oldest of the seven-member coalition

government and has been in the cabinet for 11 years. He is President

this year -- the second time he has held the office -- under

Switzerland's annual rotating system.
