September 30.

Howard Wilson, the double police murderer, has not by any stretch of

the imagination ''attempted to orchestrate publicity for his book'', the

crime novel Angels of Death (September 29).

He wrote the book for his own interest and was encouraged to publish

by myself and others. We embarked on publication only after serious

consideration of the likely press and public reaction.

Argyll Publishing lives in the commercial world and we issue books

that we think we can sell.

Ascribing devious intent to the author just may run the risk of

concealing some of the questions that need asking about long prison

sentences, how they are spent, and when they should end.
