PAULINE McGOLDRICK, 17, came out tops in last month's hi-tech

competition -- she wins for her school a year's subscription to The

Herald on CD ROM, worth #150*.

This means that looking up past editorial info couldn't be easier: you

simply attach a CD ROM drive to your computer, decide what you want to

search for -- and type it in.

Pauline should be good at that. Her extremely neat response

(reproduced, right) was obviously word-processed and in our picture she

certainly looks at home with her computer at her school, Laurel Bank in

Hillhead, Glasgow.

Other competition entrants should note, however, that while we

appreciate neatness, it is not our first judging criterion. The human

hand remains a welcome one.

It's just that we liked what Pauline wrote in response to our three

challenging questions.
