JAMIE BAKER is hoping a final practice session with Andy Murray will hone his game to the level needed to beat Italian opponent Stefano Galvani in his first round tie tomorrow.

Murray and Baker, respectively British No.1 and No.2, will hit for around an hour on the Wimbledon warm-up courts later today with Murray also opening his campaign tomorrow against veteran Frenchman Fabrice Santoro.

And Baker has no doubts about the benefit of a final tune- up with the 12th seed.

The Glaswegian said: "You always want to go into a competition having got as much practice in with the best possible hitting partners. So it is great for me to have this final practise hit is with Andy.

"For a start, Andy is very intense in practice and I know that I will have to be operating at an intensity and performance level that is going to benefit me against Galvani tomorrow.

"The fact that we will keep the hit relatively short will make sure that neither of us is drained for tomorrow."

Baker kept his practice sessions to a minimum and the 21-year-old is determined to make it to the second round for the first time.

He said: "I don't know that much about Galvani, but I do know that at 31 he has plenty of experience on the ATP Tour. He was as high as 99 in the rankings a couple of summers back but is now 201 so he is maybe starting to slip a bit. But he will be tough and I guess the game is going to be played out on the baseline.

"But having had my first competitive match back at the Nottingham Open last week and then had another week's practice on top of that I feel I am in a far better place to get the win I am desperate to land.

"I know Andy is a heavy favourite to make the second round and I'd love to make it through with him. It would be brilliant to have two Scots in the next round."
