A MYSTERY cockerel has been ruffling a few feathers in the city with its unwelcome wake-up calls.

It seems the early bird's crowing has been ringing out in the Fisherton Street area from around 5.30am.

The din at dawn has sparked debate on the Spotted Salisbury Facebook page, with some suggesting it may be a mobile phone ring-tone.

After one anonymous Facebook user posted the complaint, calling for the owner to "do something about it", others said they too had heard the rooster's racket.

Some tried to pinpoint where the noise was coming from.

Kelly Walker posted: "Heard it on my walk to work this morning, sounded like it came from the sorting office."

Others simply suggested how to put a stop to the performance.

"I hear this every morning when I leave work, shoot it," Aden Clarke suggested.

Fiona Walker wrote: "Why don't you tell it to cluck off!"

Libby Watson was more concerned for the bird's welfare. "I don't think it fair to keep it locked up in a town centre," she said.

"It's not like it's gonna give anyone eggs... What's the point?"

While Richard Fishpool asked the question: "What do you suggest they do with it? That's what cockerels do!"

So far, the chicken's owner has not come forward.

Have you heard the bird? Or is it your feathered friend?
