A MAN was left with several cuts and bruises and a bite to his face after he challenged another man jumping up and down on the bonnet of a car.

The 24-year-old was walking home along North John Street in the town centre at around 3am on Saturday, March 21. Following the confrontation with the man on the car the victim was assaulted by another male.

Both men then left the scene.

The victim needed medical treatment for his injuries.

Detective Constable Robert Keir, said: "This was a nasty attack on a man who had been enjoying a night out. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the attack and is currently recovering at home.

"We are absolutely determined to find the people responsible but we need the public's help in piecing together what happened before and after the altercation.

“We would urge the two men involved in the altercation to get in touch to help us with our investigation.

“North John Street would have been busy with people going home after socialising in the town centre and I would also appeal to anyone who was out and about at this time and think they saw anything to contact us with that information.

“I'd also like to reassure people that incidents like this are rare and neighbourhood officers will be increasing patrols in the area.”

An investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is on-going.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 6881 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
