NEWPORT will be hopeful of a first win of the season in the South Wales Premier League as they travel to bottom of the table Mumbles this weekend.

Michael Claydon’s side were narrowly beaten at leaders Pontarddulais last Saturday having seen their opening home fixture rained off.

Newport dismissed the west Wales outfit for 131 last week with Darwell Taylor-Wood taking 4-21.

But the visitors were all out for 122 in reply and lost by nine runs to leave them on ten points so far, four points and three places above basement boys Mumbles.

The Swansea outfit were convincingly beaten at home by defending champions Cardiff last week as the capital side moved up to second in the formative table behind Pontarddulais – the only side to have recorded two wins so far due to the wet weather.

In Division Two Panteg host Swansea and they will also be hoping for better luck with the forecast after their home match against Carmarthen Wanderers was cancelled last week.

Ian Bird’s men, who are seventh in the table, are also looking for a first win of the campaign after they drew at Ynystawe on the opening day.

In Division One of the Glamorgan & Monmouthshire League Croesyceiliog host Sudbrook, Malpas take on Blackwood, Abergavenny are at Pontypridd, Newbridge travel to Radyr and Usk are up against Chepstow.

And in Division Two Pontymister are at Brecon, Rogerstone host Creigiau, Ponthir travel to Sully Centurions and Newport Fugitivies go to the Welsh Asians.
