BEDWAS head coach Steve Law has called on his patched-up squad to show their character by securing a much-needed Principality Premiership win against Neath at Bridge Field, writes Chris Kirwan.

Last weekend they not only lost a game they should have won against Newport but they suffered yet more injury blows.

Back row forwards Sam Feehan, James Sawyer and Deri Mattravers are now sidelined while lock/back row Geraint Edmunds, a summer signing from Bargoed, has a broken hand.

Law’s small squad is stretched to the limit and he hopes that his players can mirror the heroics of Warren Gatland’s men at Twickenham last weekend.

“We’ve got a horrendous injury and now we will see the character of the squad,” he said. “We have just got to roll our sleeves up because this is a big game for us.

“We have won one of our first four games when we could quite easily have been three from four. We were well beaten by Cross Keys but should have beaten Newport last weekend and, even though we maybe wouldn’t have deserved it, we should have beaten Aberavon.

“Last Saturday was a more difficult defeat to swallow than the Keys game because we created the opportunities but wasted them.

“The boys can’t be that wasteful against a Neath side in the same boat as us after a frustrating start to the season.

“We need to step up because good performances are all well and good but you need good results as well.”

Bedwas are boosted by the return of flanker George Lee, who waa unavailable last week, while they will also have the services of Josh Skinner.

The Dragons academy blindside, who spent the summer playing for Waikaka in New Zealand, is usually allocated to Cross Keys but makes the short trip to Bridge field instead.

Neath have lost all four games this season but pushed Cardiff hard when beaten 28-24 at the Gnoll last weekend.
