NEWPORT Gwent Dragons director of rugby Lyn Jones has admitted there is still uncertainty over the future of star number eight Taulupe Faletau.

The Wales back row forward is on Bath’s wishlish and the big-spending Aviva Premiership side, who are also said to be interested in former Dragons lock Luke Charteris, are prepared to buy him out of the last year of his contact at Rodney Parade.

Talks took place over the summer but a move didn’t come to fruition over full international release and the issue was put on the back burner while Faletau concentrated on the World Cup.

But the issue is live again now that Wales have been knocked out of the tournament and Bath will be keen to get things sorted as swiftly as possible given that European rugby starts on the weekend of November 13.

If Faletau did move to Bath then he would need to be selected by Wales boss Warren Gatland as a ‘wild card’ as part of the WRU Senior Player Selection Policy.

It had been thought that these would be Harlequins centre and Bath fly-half Rhys Priestland, although it is believed that the latter may be prepared to put his international career on hold to concentrate on matters at the Rec, where he will battle England number 10 George Ford.

"There is uncertainty and we will see in the next week,” Jones said in the Welsh interview at the Dragons’ press day ahead of Friday’s clash with Treviso.

Jones had earlier said that the Rodney Parade region were still pondering when to recall their star player to training after his exertions at England 2015.

“Toby had an outstanding World Cup for Wales. He played a lot of time and to a high standard,” said Jones.

“We are not communicating with him at the moment, we are just letting him relax and enjoy his time off.

“The mental burnout for these players is massive, probably the biggest area of recovery rather than physical.

“I’m not sure (when we will see him back in training). We will have a chat and agree a return time for him.”
