BEDWAS boss Steve Law is delighted to be helping in the comebacks of 'old boys' Jack Dixon and James Thomas while he believes one of their fellow Dragons is back on the up after injury frustration, writes Chris Kirwan.

Centre Dixon, 21, is set for his first action of the season following his pre-season kidney injury when the men from Bridge Field travel to Llanelli in the Principality Premiership on Sunday while lock/back row James Thomas, 25, turns out for the first time since October after a back problem.

Bedwas played a part in the development of Dixon, who was a member of Wales' World Cup training squad, when he came through the Dragons academy in 2012 while Thomas' exploits as club captain helped earned a professional deal.

"We are pleased to help them and hope they perform well," said head coach Law. "They are good, honest boys and we know that they will give us everything."

The pair are joined in the squad by Dragons wing Aled Brew, who has performed well for Bedwas while out of favour at Rodney Parade, and 20-year-old regional lock Joe Davies, who is finishing the season strongly after injury frustrations.

Law believes that the former Wales Under-20s forward is hitting his straps and came through a litmus test in the 16-8 defeat to Ebbw Vale when up against the strong pairing of Damian Hudd and Ashley Sweet.

"Joe is playing regularly and improving again," he said. "He needs to play to grow and last weekend he was the best second row on the pitch against two very good Ebbw Vale players."

Bedwas head west on Sunday – the game has been moved because of the Scarlets' derby with Cardiff Blues – but have been dealt an injury blow ahead of next Saturday's Foster's Challenge Cup final against Pontypridd in Bridgend.

Fly-half Richard Powell suffered a shoulder injury against the Steelmen and is likely to be out for a month. That will lead to a debut at full-back for Garyn Payne, a Coleg y Cymoedd student who has played for Cardiff Blues Under-18s. He is on permit from Aberdare and has signed for next season.

"We need to be clinical against Llanelli," said Law. "Parc y Scarlets is a big surface and when you create opportunities you have to take them, because they certainly will."
