FORMER Newport County AFC striker Conor Washington will find out this weekend whether his dream of playing at Euro 2016 will become a reality.
Washington is in the provisional 27-man squad picked by Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill and he will find out if he makes the cut when the final 23-man squad is named on Saturday.
The Queens Park Rangers striker, who left County in January 2014, has one more chance to impress in tomorrow night’s friendly against Belarus in Belfast.
Speaking about the Euros, Washington said: “It would be absolutely massive for me. I’ve come a long way and it would be the icing on the cake.”
The 24-year-old made his international debut against Wales in Cardiff in March and scored the winner against Slovenia as he won his second cap.
“It was so easy to settle in,” he said. “I think that showed in the performances in both games.
“I was made really welcome and you can definitely tell that on the pitch and we get to understand each other’s game a lot quicker.
“The lads are all brilliant and there are obviously some top players in the squad.”
