IMPRESSIVE Glamorgan stunned pre-tournament favourites Surrey and a crowd of 15,500 with a comprehensive eight-wicket win in the NatWest T20 Blast South Group encounter.

They maintained their unbeaten record in four visits to the Kia Oval after dismissing Surrey for just 93 in 17.2 overs and knocking off their target with 46 balls to spare.

Surrey's top order was dismantled in the space of 13 deliveries when they lost four wickets, two of them to Netherlands seamer Timm van der Gugten, who returned in the 11th over to take two more wickets and finish with four for 14.

Among his victims was Kumar Sangakkara for two while England opener Jason Roy made just 15.

Surrey were grateful for lower-order contributions from the Curran brothers, Sam (21) and Tom (20), but a target of 94 was never going to trouble Glamorgan on an easy-paced pitch and captain Jacques Rudolph led them to victory with an undefeated 34.

It was just the tonic after a sticky start to the county championship campaign and Glam will attempt to follow up their super performance when they welcome Essex to Cardiff on Wednesday evening.

Surrey might have sensed it wasn't going to be their night when wicketkeeper Ben Foakes was hit on the elbow in the nets and had to withdraw from the team a few minutes before the toss and there was another addition to their lengthening injury list later when Azhar Mahmood limped off with a pulled calf and the 41-year-old was unable to bowl.

Yet they started well enough, reaching 28 without loss after three overs before Van der Gugten struck twice in the fourth over. Steven Davies pulled a short ball to deep midwicket before Sangakkara chased a wide one and wicketkeeper Chris Cooke pulled off the first of two excellent catches.

Roy had briefly flourished, hitting consecutive balls from Graham Wagg to the boundary as he became the first Surrey batsmen to pass 2,000 T20 runs, but he was caught at deep cover off a mis-timed drive and Surrey had slumped to 32 for four when Zafar Ansari was well held low down by the diving Cooke.

Glamorgan chipped away for the rest of the innings thanks to some aggressive bowling and tigerish fielding. Van der Gugten returned to the attack to bowl Gary Wilson and trap James Burke lbw for a third-ball duck and Craig Meschede picked up his second wicket when Sam Curran pulled a short ball straight to midwicket.

At 60 for seven and with Mahmood having hobbled off Surrey were facing ignominy, but Tom Curran and Matt Pillans put on 24 for the eighth wicket before slow left-armer Dean Cosker wrapped up the innings. Curran holed out to deep cover and Pillans was bowled for 13 hitting across the line.

It was a very impressive performance in the field by Glamorgan and their batsmen were in no mood to squander their efforts.

Openers David Lloyd and Rudolph put on 58 in eight overs with the former thumping six boundaries in his 31 off 21 balls before he was caught off a leading edge off Pillans.

Colin Ingram, who was making his first appearance of the season, hit his first ball for six and when he was out in the 10th over Glamorgan only needed 17 and were strolling to victory.
