HALLAM Amos has been urged by legendary Wales wing Ieuan Evans to seize the day at Twickenham and secure a starting spot against the world champions.

The 21-year-old Newport Gwent Dragons speedster will win his seventh cap when he dons the 11 jersey against Six Nations champions England (kick-off 3pm), joining George North and Liam Williams in the back three.

A strong performance against the Grand Slam winners will strengthen his case to start against New Zealand in the first Test in Auckland a week on Saturday in the continued absence of injured full- back Leigh Halfpenny.

Former Wales captain Evans, who will be part of the Sky Sports commentary team at Twickenham and Down Under, hopes the Dragons winger nails his audition.

"I am delighted that Hallam has got the opportunity and I am looking forward to seeing how he goes," said the three-time Lions great.

"You have to take your chance however it comes about and injuries happen in a very physical sport, so Hallam has to grab this opportunity with both hands – 'carpe diem', seize the day.

"But I don't think Hallam should feel under any pressure. He needs to enjoy the occasion and savour this moment.

"He mustn't get tense because that's when you drop passes or high balls, he has to enjoy it because this is a great opportunity to play at a great stadium at Twickenham then tour a country and play a team that you measure yourself against."

Wingers Tom James and Eli Walker have also been named in the squad for New Zealand while other options could be shifting centre Scott Williams out wide or fielding fly-half/full-back Gareth Anscombe with Liam Williams moving to the flank.

However, Evans believes Amos has the all-round game to fit nicely into Warren Gatland's XV.

"He showed enough at the back-end of this season and is developing his game nicely," said Evans.

"He is a good footballer with the ability to play 15 and it's good to have players of that ilk on the field with more strings to their bow.

"It's going to be a challenge going to New Zealand because we know how well stocked they are in those areas, whether it's Julian Savea, Waisake Naholo or whoever.

"On Sunday he will be marking Anthony Watson, who is very good, but Hallam is strong in the air, has a terrific step on him and is willing to back himself. That's essential, because if you don't as a winger then you are not the outlet that your team needs."
