CWMBRAN'S Darryl James helped Wales win the 2016 Home International Billiards and Snooker Federation Masters title in Leeds.

The Welsh Masters A side were crowned champions thanks to a single-point victory over last year's winners England A at the Northern Snooker Centre.

Pwllheli’s Elfed Evans came third in the stats, winning 13 of his 18 frames. Steve Thomas, also from Pwllheli, won 12, Neath’s Gavin Lewis 10 and James nine.

Wales A finished unbeaten during the tournament.

They got off to a great start beating defending champions England a by eight frames to four.

They followed up with a 7-5 win against Scotland A, a 9-3 win over Scotland B and an 8-4 victory over Wales B.

And Wales A also claimed 6-6 draws against England B and Republic of Ireland to run out overall winners.

The Wales Master B team of Jon Perring, Simon Williams, John-Henry Griffiths, David Parker and Keith Thomas managed a win and two draws during the tournament.

In the men’s competition Wales A started well but were unable to maintain their form, ultimately coming third.

Like Elfed, Alex Taubman came third with 13 wins from 18 frames.

Newport’s Andrew Pagett won 11 of 18, Rhydian Richards eight and Jack Bradford six.

Wales B avoided the wooden spoon with some spirited performances.

Jamie Clarke won eight frames, Tom Rees seven and both Richard king and Mike Dorey won six.
