CAPTAIN Scott Matthews has called on Cross Keys to keep it simple as they bid for back-to-back Principality Premiership victories when hosting Swansea.

Keys will hope to show that east is best for the second week on the spin when they welcome the All Whites to Pandy Park following their much-needed 48-3 hammering of Neath.

They didn't have margin for error after a sloppy start to the campaign in which they failed to register a point from meetings with Merthyr and Bridgend.

Now Matthews wants to keep the momentum against a Swansea side who have lost to Carmarthen Quins, Aberavon and Bargoed since returning to the top flight.

"We needed that win against Neath and were desperate to get it," said the former Dragons flanker. "We have been working hard in training but for whatever reason it just hadn't happened on the pitch.

"We knew what we had to do against Neath and it just clicked. We kept things simple and got the job done.

"Winning can become a habit and we need to build on last week against Swansea, who will be tough. They will be wanting to impress after coming up to the Premiership and want to get their season rolling, so we know that it will be a big physical battle.

"We've just got to worry about ourselves and keep doing the simple things well, which worked against Neath. If we make sure our own house is in order we can get the win we need."

Matthews has long been a Keys talisman in the back row but now the 22-year-old has more to worry about after succeeding centre Leon Andrews as club captain.

The abrasive openside said: "It's a little bit different and I've had to change on the field – I can't be so hot-headed and chopsy!

"Leon has always been my captain at Keys so it's good to have him there to have a chat with about how things are going as well as experienced players like Adam Powell and (vice-captain) James Leadbeater. It's a learning curve for me and they are making life easier."
