NEWPORT Gwent Dragons scrum-half Luc Jones has joined English side Harlequins on a three-month loan.

The 22-year-old has been signed by the Aviva Premiership side after Calum Waters suffered an ankle injury and will provide cover for England star Danny Care during the autumn internationals.

Jones has made just one appearance for the Dragons this season, coming off the bench in the loss in Treviso, and has watched Sarel Pretorius and Charlie Davies share the duties at 9.

They will now be backed up by academy pair Owen Davies and Owain Leonard, who are likely to play for the Dragons Premiership Select XV in the British and Irish Cup.

Jones, who has made 25 appearances for the Rodney Parade region, played on permit from the Dragons for Harlequins A in their loss to Exeter last week and scored a try in the fixture at the Twickenham Stoop.

Harlequins director of rugby John Kingston said: “We are pleased to be able to bring on some with Luc’s ability for the next three months.

“Following the unfortunate injury to Calum it was important to secure the necessary depth at scrum-half ahead of a period of international unavailability.”

Jones will join former Dragons teammate Owen Evans at Harlequins along with Wales international Jamie Roberts and former Wales tighthead Adam Jones.

He is the fourth player to go out on loan so far this season with props Luke Garrett and Shaun Knight at the Scarlets and Bath respectively while lock Scott Andrews is at Ealing.
