PACESETTERS Pontypool have been warned about the dangers of complacency ahead of their WRU Championship clash with Skewen, writes Chris Kirwan.

Pooler will attempt to make it seven wins from seven in today's home fixture and are in buoyant mood thanks to last week's fine 30-19 success at then unbeaten Tata Steel.

The Gwent side now boast a five-point advantage at the head of the table but head coach Leighton Jones has cautioned his players about a potential banana skin in Skewen.

The Division One West Central champions have won three of six and emerged from games with second-placed Tata and third-placed Narberth with losing bonus points.

"We have drummed home all week that our attitude and mentality has to be spot-on," said Jones.

"We must not take our focus off what Skewen are about, they are clearly a decent team because they have had close calls against Tata and Narberth.

"It's a home game and we want to make Pontypool Park a fortress this season, so we have to keep building."

Pooler may have a perfect record but they had to dig deep at Margam Park last weekend, fighting back from 13-3 down to go in level at half-time before securing the spoils in the second half.

"We started well, which was a big focus, but didn't really get the points so we had to show character from 13-3 down," said Jones.

"The senior players helped us regroup and we stuck to the gameplan to claw our way back and then take control.

"That was really pleasing from a coaching point of view and it was good for the players to see what we work on in the week pays off."

Newbridge head to bottom club Glamorgan Wanderers with a spring in their step thanks to last week's excellent 34-21 victory against Cardiff Met at the Welfare Ground.

'Bridge haven't won back-to-back games since securing their Championship status by beating Glynneath and Narberth last April.

They beat the Students thanks to tries by full-back Srdan Majkic, scrum-half Garyn Lucas (2) and centre Haydn Palmer (2) while a host of their players are fresh from performing well on permit for Principality Premiership sides in the Foster's Challenge Cup in midweek.

The Wanderers drew at Bedlinog on opening weekend after coming up from Division One East Central but have lost their last five.

Today is the first meeting of the sides since the 2012/13 Championship season when 'Bridge romped to a 57-14 home success and edged a tighter affair in Ely 19-12.
