EBBW Vale face Bridgend for the second time in a week today (kick-off 2.30pm) as they return to the scene of their midweek National Cup victory over the Ravens.

The Brewery Field was a happy hunting ground for Greg Woods’ Steelmen on Tuesday night, with a 33-13 win booking Ebbw a quarter-final trip to Bargoed.

That followed an impressive league victory over Pontypridd, and back-to-back Principality Premiership triumphs is the goal for Ebbw this weekend.

“It’s always a tricky fixture when you go back to a club you’ve just played,” said head coach Woods.

“And I’m sure they’re going to be hurting from the result on Tuesday night.

“It was great for us to beat Pontypridd and then back it up in the cup, but we need to back that up with another good performance this weekend.

“It’s going to be a huge challenge for us and we need to make sure we play with the same intensity.”

Bridgend team manager Ed Griffith commented: “As a group, we are smarting from Tuesday’s poor first-half performance.

“Although we improved in the second half the damage had already been done.

“I’m not taking anything away from Ebbw Vale’s performance but we were simply not at the races for long periods.

“And it is probably the worst I have seen us play since I have been involved with the club.

“We are fortunate we haven’t got long to wait for us try to and put things right with a re-match with Ebbw on Saturday.

“As a group of players and coaches, we need to take responsibility.

“The focus leading into Saturday’s game will be on some honesty and self-reflection as a group.”

The Ravens, one from bottom in the league table, have lost five of their last six league outings.
