ENTRIES are flooding in for next month’s Cornfield Project 5k Fun Run – the fourth time the annual event has been held.

Once again, Chepstow Boxing Club members will be running to raise money for their trip to Hull later in the summer when they will hope to equal or improve on their showing last year.

The club’s head coach Steve Woods said the boxers have been looking forward to this year’s fun run, for which each of the lads has been collecting sponsorship.

“The boys know they have to help the club raise the money for the travelling and accommodation costs and taking part in the fun run is a great way for local clubs and organisations to raise much-need funds,” he added.

Missing from the start line will be the winner of the first two Cornfield 5k events, Caldicot Castle’s Richard Lund, who has his sights set on the – slightly – longer Newport Marathon on the same day.

“I’m committed to the marathon for my first, and probably my last, attempt at the distance,” Lund said during a break in his training for the gruelling run.

The Cornfield 5k, at Portskewett’s Recreation Hall on Sunday April 29th, has been promoted as a fun event with entrants running, jogging or walking the scenic route which includes a section of the Coastal Path.

It has quickly become established as an event for the serious runner to use as part of his or her training schedule as well as for less-energetic strollers who walk their dogs.

Organisers have again invited a number of stall-holders to add an extra attraction for spectators and there will be refreshments and music at the site.

Entry fees are £5 for adults and £3 for juniors (16 and under) and entrants can pay in cash on the day,

Following the main run, there will be a 1km trail run for smaller children who can be seen at all times.
