EBBW Vale boss Greg Woods has warned his charges that he won’t entertain anybody thinking ahead to their WRU National Cup quarter-final, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Steelmen are just 160 minutes away from a big day out at Principality Stadium and face Bargoed in their rearranged last-eight tie on Wednesday.

However, first they are in Premiership action against Llandovery at Church Bank tomorrow (kick-off 1pm) and are looking to build on a streak that has seen them triumph in six of their last seven fixtures.

Ebbw sit seventh in the league, just two points off Gwent pace-setters Newport in fourth, and their head coach wants to keep climbing.

“We are on a good winning run and need to front up at one of the toughest places to go in the Premiership,” said Woods.

“We need to be focused and cannot afford to head there for an early kick-off thinking of the cup game in midweek.

“We need to be switched on because we have worked hard to make sure we get in the winning habit and we don’t want to lose that now.”

Ebbw head into the game on the back of a hard-earned 22-6 win against Neath, a success that featured tries by scrum-half Dai Jones, flanker Ronny Kynes and wing Toby Fricker at Eugene Cross Park.

“I think that we were all a bit down afterwards because we didn’t get that fourth try but on reflection it was a good performance,” said Woods.

“We were a little bit rusty and conditions were tough but we dominated the game and it was pleasing that we didn’t let them score a try.”

The Steelmen will head to Church Bank with a similar squad to the one that beat the Welsh All Blacks.

The Drovers lost 13-6 at Bedwas last weekend.
