WALES will return to Newport next month for their crunch 2019 Women's World Cup qualifier against England.

Rodney Parade – home of Newport RFC, Dragons and Newport County AFC – will host the match on Friday, August 31 (kick-off 7.45pm).

Wrexham's Racecourse Ground was also considered by the Football Association of Wales for Wales' final qualifier.

Welsh Assembly member for Wrexham Lesley Griffiths had written to the FAW urging the sport's governing body to take the game to the Racecourse but Rodney Parade has won out.

The ground previously hosted two Euro 2017 qualifiers in September 2016 when Wales women beat Israel 3-0 and then drew 0-0 with Austria.

And Newport’s Spytty Park was the venue for last month’s 3-0 win over Russia.

That victory took Wales to the top of Pool One – one point above England, who have a game in hand.

A Wales win next month means they will qualify automatically for next year's finals in France.

The runner-up is likely to face a play-off to reach the finals.

After facing Wales, England travel to face Kasakhstan on September 4.

Even if favourites England draw in Newport and then win in Kazakhstan, Wales could still qualify if they are one of the four best runners-up from the seven groups.

"We are really looking forward to the next game being a cup final match for us and having a really big, loud fan base coming to supports us hopefully," said Wales manager Jayne Ludlow.

The match is likely to set a new record attendance for a Wales women game on home soil, eclipsing the 3,581 that watched the meeting with England at Cardiff City Stadium in 2014.

When Wales beat Russia to top their group at Spytty on June 12 there were 1,214 fans in attendance.

Tickets go on sale on to Red Wall members on Thursday, July 12.
