Chepstow 1sts 276 all out beat Newbridge 1sts (201 all out) by 75 runs

A SUPERB partnership between Tyler Morgan-Huggett and Sam Hope-Bell earned Chepstow 1sts a vital victory at Mathern Road on Saturday, writes Bob Cypher.

The pair came together after both openers were sent back to the pavilion with only 11 runs scored and they had boosted the home side’s tally to 166 by the time Hope-Bell was stumped by Newbridge keeper Will Davey.

After losing his partner, who made 60 valuable runs, Morgan-Huggett went on to amass 164 runs thanks to 23 boundaries and two maximums to put Chepstow in the driving seat.

While Morgan-Huggett continued to build his innings, he lost two more partners cheaply before being run out and the home team’s innings stuttered to a close on 276 all out.

In reply, Newbridge lost opener Travis Morgan to Luke Watson for a duck and although skipper James Morgan made 46 only Davey (34) and Lewis Parfitt (55) made significant totals.

Later, Chepstow all-rounder Malith Madurasinghe praised Morgan-Huggett for his innings.

“It was a great victory and Tyler’s innings was superb,” he said.

“We bowled and fielded really well to contain Newbridge’s batsmen with Luke Watson (3-31) and Rizan Mansoor (3-45) being the pick of our bowlers.”
