BRYNMAWR stalwart and Welsh Rugby Union board member Mal Beynon has died.
Beynon, who worked as a scaffolder before managing his own finance business, played for Brynmawr and went on to represent the club as treasurer, vice-chairman and chairman, being awarded life membership for his exploits.
He joined the WRU board in 1997 to represent District A, a role he filled until 2015, and was chairman of the governing body’s regulatory committee as well as being member of the Millennium Stadium board.
WRU president Dennis Gethin said: "Mal will be sorely missed by his club Brynmawr and Welsh rugby as a whole.
“He was a great servant of Welsh rugby for club, district and country. He was of great help to me when I was secretary of the Welsh Rugby Union, and I will also remember him as the heart and soul of after-match functions.”

He was also a director and board member of the Welsh Rugby Union.
Huge thank you to Mal for all his hard work. @WelshRugbyUnion @dragonsrugby
It was with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Mal Beynon this weekend. Mal was a very good friend to EVRFC in his role as WRU Director and a passionate rugby man through and through. Our thoughts are with his family, Brynmawr RFC and all those who knew Mal.
