Division Two
CHEPSTOW Town established a six-point lead over second-placed Chepstow Athletic at the weekend, writes Bob Cypher.
Two goals apiece by Chris Hooper and Tom Philp earned Town a 4-0 home win over Sudbrook CC.
“We cancelled each other out in the first half,” Town player Sean Canavan said later.
“But despite starting the second half brightly, Sudbrook went behind when Tom Philp scored and we began to take control.
“Our defence was concentrating on keeping a clean sheet and we went further ahead through two Chris Hooper goals before Philp scored his second to wrap up the three points and maintain our 100 per cent record.”
Elsewhere, Chepstow Athletic enjoyed a 9-3 home victory over visitors Thornwell Red & White B thanks to six of the best from last season’s Golden Boot winner Will Morgan.
Further goals from Michael Slater (2) and Dan Blundell secured the points.
Monmouth Town won 3-1 at Caldicot Castle B with goals by Sam Williams, George Anthony and Henry Williams.
Finally, Raglan gained a useful point in a 2-2 draw at Portskewett & Sudbrook.
