NEWBRIDGE have parted company with coach Jon Daye after a tough start to the WRU National Championship season and brought former Ebbw Vale prop Kristian Gay into the management team.

The Pigs enjoyed a strong 2017/18 to finish fifth in the table but have struggled as the start of the current campaign.

‘Bridge, who host Maesteg Quins on Saturday, started with a win against Rhydyfelin but have since lost to Narberth, Bedlinog and Pontypool.

That prompted a change of the management with Daye leaving and Gay coming in as forwards coach to work alongside player-coach Scott Williams, who is responsible for the backs.

“Following a review of the first month of the season it has been mutually agreed that the club and Jon Daye have parted company,” read a club statement.

“NRFC would like to take this opportunity to thank Jon for his efforts over the last few seasons and wish him well in his future endeavours.

“We believe that Kristian will bring a new dimension to the team at present and will also continue to look towards the future development of the club.”

Gay played for the Steelmen, Bedwas, London Welsh and Cardiff and since hanging up his boots has enjoyed coaching spells with Blaenavon and Dragons age-grade teams.
