Gwent County FA Amateur Cup

Round One

THORNWELL Red & White embarked on another cup run with a 6-0 victory at county league division two outfit FC Tredegar at the weekend, writes Bob Cypher.

Red & White, who progressed to the semi-final last season, had Wayne Duffield, Tony Reynolds, Rob Wood and an own goal to thank for the victory.

It was a day of mixed fortunes for East Gwent teams with Rockfield losing 4-2 on penalties after the match against visitors Garnlydan ended 2-2 on 90 minutes.

Joining Thornwell in the hat for the second round are Tintern Abbey, who beat Newport Eagles 4-1, and Caldicot Castle A, who were given a bye in the first round.

Sudbrook CC lost 6-0 at home to Abertillery Excelsiors while Severn Tunnel’s tie at Crindau Corries was called off due to the weather.

The cup matches and the weekend’s heavy rain restricted the East Gwent League’s fixtures, with only two matches surviving.

In Division 1, Iscoed Tafern beat Undy Athletic 2-1, and in Division 2, Chepstow Town recorded the same score to beat Caldicot Castle B.

CALDICOT Town LFC lost 6-0 at Cardiff Met in the first round of the FAW Women’s Cup and Severn Tunnel’s South Wales Women and Girls League clash with Villa Dino Ladies was postponed.
