Division 1

THERE was awayday delight for three clubs in Division 1 with only Severn Tunnel winning on their home pitch, writes Bob Cypher.

Keenan Perrett struck a fine hat-trick as Tunnel beat Undy Athletic 5-3, Tom Atkins adding the other two.

At Rockfield Rovers, goals by Joe O’Brien, Tim Battersby (direct from a corner) and a Zac Niblett volley put Caldicot Castle firmly in the driving seat but the game - which did not have a designated referee - became acrimonious after some decisions were disputed.

There was further disagreement when the first half ended 15 minutes early although, when the mistiming was pointed out, the 'referee' called the teams back on for a further 15 minutes.

The game ended 4-2 to Castle after Jake Withey added the fourth goal and the victory kept Castle at the top of the table.

“We arrived at Rockfield with 16 players and Rockfield’s manager told us he had a bare 11 and was going to have to referee the match,” O’Brien said later.

“We offered to ref the first half for him to let him do his bit as a manager but he declined,” he added.

Meanwhile, Iscoed Tafarn kept their title hopes very much alive with a 5-2 victory at Tintern Abbey.

Iscoed are three points behind Castle, both having played seven matches.

Thornwell Red & White A claimed the division’s scoring honours, hammering hosts Caldicot Town 8-0.

This Saturday sees the top-of-the-table clash between Castle A and Iscoed Tafarn in the rematch ordered after the original game was abandoned by the referee amid mayhem on the field.
