Welsh Women’s League
Caldicot Town LFC 0 Barry Town United 0
CALDICOT Town Ladies missed a chance to go four points clear at the top of the league when they were held by a resolute and determined Barry side at the weekend, writes Bob Cypher.
One point adrift of the local side, Barry seemed determined to prevent their free-scoring hosts adding to their goal difference column as well as taking a sizeable lead into the second half of the 20-match season.
Caldicot welcomed back skipper Ashleigh Harris after a two-month injury lay-off and despite lasting well into the second half she later acknowledged she has still to regain her match fitness.
Caldicot plugged away and dominated most of the play while Barry offered little in the way of goal-scoring opportunities against an equally determined home defence.
Too often good moves broke through the visitors’ defence but the final killer pass was lacking. Although Kelly Cutler brought a good save from the visitors’ keeper.
“It was a very frustrating result,” manager Luke Harris said later.
“I thought we dominated most of the match and just couldn’t produce the end product.”
Caldicot Town are home again next Sunday when Willows LFC are the visitors, kick-off 2pm.
