Caldicot Town LFC 2 Willows 3

CALDICOT Town manager Luke Harris admitted “promotion is no longer in our hands” after two missed penalties handed the points to visitors Willows, writes Bob Cypher.

Describing himself as “fuming”, Harris said it was a disappointing performance,

“There was no fight or desire to go and beat a poor team and promotion is no longer in our hands,” he said.

“We don’t deserve to go up after that performance.”

It was all going so well in the first half when Town, leading 2-1, were awarded a penalty.

But the spot-kick was wide and Town paid a heavy price for the miss when the visitors equalised in the 44th minute.

The goal was tough luck on Town keeper Alisha Young who had earlier tipped a net-bound shot over the crossbar and then bravely dived at an onrushing forward’s feet to smother the ball after a back pass was too short.

But she had no chance with the equaliser after poor defending gave Willows the chance to lob the ball over her from 18 yards.

Early in the second half, Willows were awarded a penalty which was dispatched perfectly, but when Town were awarded another penalty, the shot was straight at the keeper,

The final 20 minutes saw Town virtually camped in Willows’ half, but the visitors’ keeper and defenders managed to deny them an equaliser.
