HAVING endured a wasted trip to Swansea and with no game this Saturday, Caldicot Town’s boss Simon Wetter is looking to arrange a friendly next week to brush away the cobwebs.

Town dropped to third in Welsh League Division One after their game at Pontardawe Town was called off at the last minute.

Wetter said: "We had a pitch inspection at 11.30am and they said it was fine, so we set off. By the time we got there the referee said it couldn’t go ahead.

"It wasn’t their fault, it had hammered down in the mean time and there were puddles on the pitch. It’s just a shame to have to go all the way down there for nothing.

"Also we had one of our best sides available for a change. We had a moan about it at the time but there’s nothing you can do – we had a game called off at our place last year when Ton Pentre came down."

So now, with no game this weekend due to the international break, Wetter is lining up a tie with Newport’s Llanwern for next Tuesday, ahead of their trip to Dinas Powis on Saturday, October 18.

"Llanwern would probably just be for the firsts, though we may play the firsts against the seconds in training on Saturday," he said.

On the injury front, only Maurice Chambers was unavailable last week and is expected back soon. So provided the friendlies go without a hitch, Wetter could have a near-full strength squad when he looks to return to winning ways in Cardiff.
