Crunch time

PONTYPOOL are entering what could be a crucial month in their bid for Welsh Premiership survival.

With just one win from their four games thus far, Pooler are jostling with their next three opponents at the business end of the table. Propping them up are bottom club Llandovery, Bed was and Cross Keys with a game in hand.

And next up at the Park this weekend are winless Llandovery – followed by Bed was at home in a fortnight and Cross Keys away at the end of October.

Rather than identifying these as must-win games, however, head coach Garret Lintern says he and the side will be treating all fixtures just the same.

He said: “All games in this league are important. There’s only been four or five games so you can’t read too much into it.

“Everybody is in the same situation. I’ve spoken to other coaches in the Premier Division and all the sides are saying that they’re still trying to work out what their best team is.

“We’ve played three or four of the toughest sides already, like Neath, Aberavon and Llanelli and there are 20-plus games left.

“We’ve had a tough start, but we’ve still no excuses about Saturday. We didn’t perform.”
