Aylett: 'Our day will come'

RIVALS in Division Two East should beware the firepower of Abergavenny, according to their chairman Mike Aylett.

Taking heart from last week’s 25-19 defeat at Bailey Park, he said: “I think one Saturday, someone is going to feel it. That’s the feeling I’ve got.

“Everything is going to go right and we’re going to score a fair few points. We’re quite capable of doing it, they’re youngsters who can run all day.”

Despite just one win from five games this autumn, Abergavenny sit fifth in the table courtesy of five bonus points – they have scored three tries in each of their outings including against leaders Llantrisant.

That they are not picking more more wins frustrates Aylett, but he is confident all will come good soon.

He said: ‘We’re picking up bonus points all the time and we could have had all the points on Saturday. Considering they are top of the league and haven’t lost a game the gap is not as much as we expected.

“We’re just not clinical enough. We’ve got to score the points to win the games.

“We had occassions when we were camped on their line and it’s annoying that we’re not scoring when we should be, but that’s the way it goes. We’re not too panicy, we’re doing everything right.”

Aylett continued: “Danny Haymond scored another try. Considering he’s come out of the youth he’s playing some really good rugby.

“He came off on Saturday with an injured elbow, so Will Johnson came on and scored twice.”

Tony Edwards, a veteran, also came on and made a difference steadying the back while another youth product to impress was Dan Horler, who came into the second row and acquitted himself well.

Aylett added: “The only thing is our scrum half James Harris is injured for a couple more weeks and Ross Turner isn’t as quick. Perhaps we’re not getting the ball out quick enough?”

Abergavenny’s next three games are all away – at Ynysybwl, Flear-de-Lys and Aberavon Quins in the Welsh Cup – before Bedinlog come to Bailey Park on Saturday, November 1.
