Abergavenny docked points

SUDBROOK slipped to sixth in the South Wales Cricket League, while Abergavenny have had 20 points docked.

Second at the start of play, Sudbrook decided to go in first at the Deepweir against visitors St Fagans but could only manage 184, being bowled out in the final over. Robert Voke scored 45 and Chris Ashling 40, while Jack Lansdown took 3-33 off 7.3 overs for the Saints.

St Fagans got the runs in 37.3 overs largely thanks to Huw Beaverstock (63) and Rajpal, who cracked 23 not out off 11 balls. Julian Laing took 4-35 off seven overs for Sudbrook.

Abergavenny are now bottom of the table after their 20-point deduction for infringing league rules.

A three man panel ruled last week that South African Richard Levi – who scored an unbeaten 120 at Croesyceiliog – was ineligible despite having a British passport. Abergavenny appealed the decision but a further 12-man committee decision upheld the ban and Aber were docked 20 points.

John Roberts, head of cricket at Abergavenny, said: "He was registered as a player and had all the correct coaching badges and as far as we're concerned we'd done nothing wrong.

"He's very upset and I know his club Glamorgan CCC are fighting his corner."

Without Levi on Saturday, Abergavenny lost the toss at Avenue Road and visitors Pentyrch went in first to rattle up 289-2, with Mike Barber (118 not out) and Alex Senn (104) putting on 167 for the second wicket.

James Schofield (51), Craig Barnsley (33) and Steve Brown (33) dug in and Abergavenny were 231-8 at the close to earn a draw. Peter Grossett took 2-19 for Pentyrch, Bradley Wadlan 2-49 and Kristian Bell 2-60.

New leaders of the Premier Division are Sully after Usk who defeated Cardiff and knocked them from the summit.

Usk put Cardiff in and got them out for 222. Glamorgan’s Mike O’Shea scored 60 and Neil Buttigieg 55, while Huw Waters took 3-28 for Usk off nine overs, and Mike Read 3-51 off 10.

Shawn Moore (69) and Owen Watkins (61) kept the scoreboard ticking over and Waters added the final touch with 36. Alan Norman took 2-37 off 10 overs for Cardiff.
