Fab four sign for Pooler

POOLER revealed four new signings this week - three from relegated Bridgend and another face familiar to at least one already in the camp.

New-boy Mark Williams is the younger brother of Pontypool RFC’s Gareth Williams. He, along with the trio of Bridgend recruits, will add strength in depth and more power and pace to Pooler’s first team as they seek to build on last year’s Premiership survival.

Delighted with his new-look squad, managing director Frank Stanton announced: "Mark has been playing in the southern hemisphere but he’s coming back to Wales now and will play for us in the second row next season."

He also confirmed the identities of Pooler’s three Bridgend signings – prop Leigh Davies, number six Geraint Morris and wing Dan Connelly.

"We saw Bridgend at their game with Aberavon and these boys were on our radar already. We started talks with them after Bridgend’s relegation and our future was clear and have agreed personal terms now."

The trio’s arrival brings Pooler’s squad up to 26 – two short of Stanton’s preferred 28-man roster.

Stanton continued: "We’re looking for a couple more guys in the back line, at centre or number 10. But certainly at this stage of the season we’re thrilled with the guys who have re-committed and with the new signings."

The current crop of players will be introduced to their new colleagues when training resumes on Saturday, June 27. Fans will have the chance to see the new signings at a meet and greet club day at the end of July.

Stanton added that Newport-based medical services provider Medi-Net had come on board as the club’s principle shirt sponsor, with Terry Howell timber and builders’ merchants set to grace the back.
