Pritchard returns to Town

JASON Pritchard has returned to Caldicot Town to team up with Simon Wetter as co-managers at the club.

Often-outspoken, Pritchard openly criticised the manner in which Caldicot Town was being run in 2007 and parted company with the club last year. His return will undoubtedly raise eyebrows around Jubilee Way but he insists any internal conflict is in the past.

Pritchard said: "I missed football a bit and the club felt they needed someone else brought in so it’s good for both parties to be honest.

"I’d always kept in touch and asked if there was any way I could come back? They said they’d see if there was anything they could do. When they said I could come back in as co-manager, that was level higher than I expected, but I think it was the right decision.

"Now it’s onwards and upwards from here. The club wants to push on and go forward."

Wetter said of Pritchard: "We’ve worked together before and been friends since we were nippers so it doesn’t bother me. The main thing is we’re trying to strengthen the squad and it looks like we’ve got one or two ready to sign."

Town’s vice-chairman Mark Anderson added: "We are looking secure a top 10 finish this time out. The management team have been busy during the summer trying to secure the services of local talent and are looking for new additions to strengthen the squad as they bid to improve their final league standings of the past two seasons."

Town, who endured a mediocre season in Division One, are looking to establish themselves as Gwent’s top Welsh League side. To that end they are forging closer links with Newport County and will begin their pre-season preparations against The Exiles on Tuesday, July 21 (kick-off 7.30pm at Jubilee Way).

Dean Holdsworth's Conference South side have been using Caldicot's facility for their own pre-season training. Town’s friendlies continue against Morriston Olympic on Saturday, July 25; Chepstow Town on Saturday, August 1; and Lydney Town on Tuesday, August 4.

In other club news John Coles was awarded a league merit award at the Welsh League AGM, in recognition for all his services to Caldicot Town over many years.
