Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup - Risca United 3 Chepstow Town 0
CHEPSTOW Town manager Russell Griffiths decided to make changes for this second round Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup match ahead of next week’s important league game against Llanwern.
Five members of the current under 18’s side were selected for the match in order to rest several first team key players.
Despite their inexperience the youngsters all gave a good account of themselves and were not overawed by the opposition.
Chepstow held out for the first 20 minutes but following a period of good possession by the home side debutant goalkeeper Dean Barnett was finally beaten which allowed Risca to take a 1-0 lead.
The stronger and taller Risca side then began to take control and went further ahead with two similar headed goals from set piece corners.
This enabled Risca to take a comfortable 3-0 lead into half time. For most of the second half Risca were content to sit on their lead and this enabled Chepstow to put more pressure on the home defence.
However despite having more of the game in the second half Chepstow were unable to breach the Risca defence and the score remained at 3-0 when the final whistle was blown.
Chepstow stand in captain, Jack Harvey, received a nasty knee injury 10 minutes from time and could be considered doubtful for the game against Llanwern.
Chepstow 2nd team also had a league cup match away to Briton Ferry Llansawel and finished worthy 4-3 winners. Chepstow’s scorers were Mark Organ (2), Simon Jones and Dan Drake.
The 3rd team’s game against Chepstow Athletic Club was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.
