PACE bowler Simon Jones is delighted to have put Glamorgan's Yorkshire Bank 40 fate in their own hands after showing nerves of steel with the bat, writes Chris Kirwan.

The former England seamer hit the winning four in the last over to sneak a one-wicket win against Group C leaders Somerset in Cardiff on Monday.

It was a crucial win that put them into second place in and another success against Middlesex this evening would put give them a share of top spot with a game in hand.

"It is in our hands," said the 34-year-old. "We have got four games left and we have to try and win as many as we can just to stay in contention.

"With the side we have got and the way we are playing now, we can take massive promise from the game against Somerset."

The winners of the three groups make the semi-finals along with the runner-up with the biggest points tally.

Glamorgan are battling with Somerset, Middlesex, Gloucestershire and Leicestershire for the qualification and Jones says Monday's success has put them in buoyant mood.

"We have beaten the top of the league boys and they are a very good side," he said. "It shows the ability we have in our squad.

"This is why we play the game. It's tough and if you want to get in the top two, we have to beat the other teams.

"Middlesex are a very good side but we have momentum now from the Somerset win.

"We know how well we can play and the boys are batting well and we are bowling well as a group. We are feeling well and very confident."
