SUDBROOK hope that they can notch their own double this weekend to pile the pressure on Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League leaders Panteg.

The champions are currently second in Division One but welcome Panteg, who won the Gwalia Welsh Cup last Sunday, to the Deepweir on Bank Holiday Monday.

That promises to be a key game in deciding who wins the title – as long as Sudbrook produce the goods against struggling Pentyrch tomorrow afternoon.

Captain Ross Lewis is hoping that his side, who improved their average with victory at Abergavenny last weekend, can at least make it a tense end to the season.

"Even if we beat Panteg on Monday we will still be relying on them slipping up again," he said.

"That would seem unlikely because we are the only side to have beaten them in the league all season, but at least we have the chance to put them under a bit of pressure.

" We have gone on a good run recently so it's frustrating that one or two results from earlier in the season let us down.

"Monday could have been even more interesting if we hadn't slipped up so many times but we can't just be thinking about Panteg because if we don't beat Pentyrch then it's over anyway."

Sudbrook bowled Panteg out for 143 before chasing down their target for the loss of four wickets when the sides met in June.

The leaders host Chepstow tomorrow and finish their campaign with games against Abergavenny, Pentyrch and Tondu, who are all in the bottom half of the table.

Third-placed Usk have not lost in the league since a June 8 reverse at St Fagans. The Macey Shield winners will hope to get revenge when they host those opponents on Saturday before they travel to Abergavenny on Monday.

BLOB Newport play their final home encounter of the season when they host Pontarddulais in the South Wales Premier League tomorrow.

There is a fierce relegation scrap in the top flight with past champions Cardiff and Ammanford in real danger of the drop.

Things are a touch calmer at Spytty Park and a home victory this weekend would strengthen Newport's grip on fourth.
