FORMER England fast bowler Simon Jones looks to have bowled his last ball for Glamorgan after new chief executive Hugh Morris revealed he would not be offered a new deal for the summer of 2014.

The 34-year-old played his last game for the Welsh county in the YB40 final defeat against Nottinghamshire at Lord’s in September.

Jones had hoped to land a T20 deal with Glam as he concentrates on the shortest form of the game and he admits he is sad to miss out.

“I am bitterly disappointed that nothing has been offered,” said Jones.

“I am a local boy and I thought when I came back from Hampshire I would finish my career here.

“The support I have had from the players and fans has been excellent and I wish them all the best in the future.

“I felt I could have offered a lot more on but it was not to be.

“I picked up a shoulder injury last year in the gym which forced me to miss most of the T20 campaign.

“But I felt I came back nicely and bowled out of my skin in the 40-over final where I thought I was the pick of the Glamorgan bowlers.

“I hoped this would have worked in my favour because the rhythm was coming back and the more I bowled the better I felt.

“I feel as if I have a lot left to give because I believe with a few more games I would have hit 90mph again.

“I also believe as if I had a lot to give off the field.

“If you look at my profile in Wales, I felt as if I could have helped off the field with the youngsters coming through whether that be in an ambassadorial or mentoring role.”

But Jones insists he has no hard feelings towards Morris, who will officially take over as Glamorgan chief executive and director of cricket in January.

“There is no bitterness because it is business,” said Jones.

“Hugh Morris has come in and made what he feels is the right decision.

“Hugh is a very experienced man. He has come back and he has handed a lot of contracts to the younger guys which is great.

“They are going to look after them and nurture them. I just felt I could have been a part of the process.”
