WILL Bragg may no longer be classed as a Glamorgan youngster but the batsman knows there is plenty more potential to be unlocked over the coming season, writes Chris Kirwan.

The opening game of the County Championship season gets under way at the SSE Swalec Stadium on Sunday (11am start) when Leicestershire head to the capital.

It will be Bragg's 10th campaign and the 29-year-old from Cwmbran, who was awarded his county cap last year and penned a fresh deal, was the second youngest batsman behind captain Jacques Rudolph in this week's warm-up against Cardiff MCCU.

"I suppose there's more responsibility on me and I've noticed over the past few years that I'm now one of the older guys," said Bragg, who scored 38 in the tune-up.

"I've been on the staff for 11 years now, it's flown by and I still feel young! Cricket is a sport where you only really find your game in your mid to late 20s so I think there's plenty more potential that hopefully will come out this season."

Championship regular Bragg is targeting more involvement in all formats this season but the left-hander, who struck two centuries in the four-day game last year, is reluctant to set figures to aim for.

He said: "Some have milestones in their mind but for me it's about going game to game because I feel that if you get close to targets then you start thinking of them rather than the match scenario."

Another former Panteg player is also looking forward to a bright season at the Swalec with David Harrison taking the next step on his coaching career. The ex-Glamorgan seamer will be one of new boss Robert Croft's right-hand men.

"I'm going to be doing more hands-on coaching than previous years after being an analysis, which I loved and I will still be involved in," said Harrison.

"It's a new challenge and it's exciting to be working alongside Crofty – I had to do all the hard yards for him as a player so that he could bowl with the wind so I will be carrying that on!

"It's another step on the coaching ladder after learning my trade as an analyst I suppose, picking up little things from different coaches and players.

"We've got a strong squad with plenty of competition for places so hopefully I can help the boys have a bit of success."
