GLAMORGAN captain Jacques Rudolph believes the stunning NatWest Blast T20 at Surrey is the perfect pick-me-up after a tough start to the season – while pace ace Dale Steyn is keen to join the party.

The South African skipper helped the Welsh county get over the line with ease with an unbeaten 34 in pursuit of 94 after Netherlands seamer Timm van der Gugten starred with four for 14 off his four overs.

Glamorgan eased to an eight-wicket win with 46 balls to spare at the Kia Oval, clearly relishing the change of format after a sticky opening in Division Two of the County Championship.

Rudolph hailed it as a complete performance and now turns his attention towards making it two from two when Essex head to the SSE Swalec Stadium on Wednesday.

He said: "In terms of a T20 win that was probably as good as it gets.

"We haven't covered ourselves in glory in the County Championship in the first six weeks of the season but we were looking forward to Surrey and I thought it was an exceptional performance, especially by the bowlers who set up the win.

"We felt if we could get their top three out we could put themselves under pressure and hopefully this will give us momentum and energy in the dressing room."

He continued: "As far as I'm aware Dale Steyn is very keen to play on Wednesday (after IPL commitments). Timm van der Gugten has shown with a bit of extra pace the kind of X-factor we need in our team, with him and Dale in the same team, we can be really excited about that."

The Dutchman, who signed in February on a three-year deal, has impressed despite Glamorgan's struggles in four-day cricket

The 25-year-old said: "I thought as a team we bowled really well, we kept them to a low total and our batters just did the job very professionally.

"A couple of wickets went my way, anyone could have taken a bagful but luckily it was my night. Steyn coming will strengthen our group and we're looking forward to working with him."

Glamorgan, who made it to finals day in 2004 and qualified for the quarter-finals in 2008 and 2014, host Essex and then welcome Hampshire to Cardiff on Friday.
