NEWPORT’S Chris Gunter admits he will be forced to deliver his best man’s speech via Skype as Wales’ stunning progress at Euro 2016 means he’s likely to miss his brother’s wedding.

Marc Gunter is due to tie the knot to fiancée Danielle in Mexico on July 7 and if Wales progress beyond Friday’s quarter-final then his brother and many of his friends may not be there.

If Chris Coleman’s team make the last four they will play in Lyon on July 6 but Chris Gunter insists his family are delighted to have such a headache.

“It is a problem already because 20-odd people fly on Tuesday to Mexico,” he said.

“My mum and dad [Sarah and Gerald] are going a little bit later but that may potentially clash.

“I don't think anyone is really concerned about me. It is more my brother, Danielle and my mum and dad.

“We play on Friday and I know my brother is talking about leaving Cancun on Thursday and flying straight in and straight out after but I am not sure that will go down!

“He is absolutely delighted though. Many months ago he booked the wedding before we qualified.

“Then we knew it would only clash if we got to the later stages. To be stood here now even talking about it is unbelievable.”

Gunter says he’s not even had time to think about his speech yet but he is certain that everything will fall into place.

“I am sure the wedding will still go ahead,” he said. “By hook or by crook I am sure everyone will get to the games and get to the wedding.

“I think it will be the first best man's speech on Skype ever. I don't think there would be happier for myself than my family if I wasn't to make it.

“I haven't even thought anything about the speech, it has been an unbelievable few weeks and things like that make it even more special really. It is nice to share this with them.”

Gunter says the prospect of a Euro 2016 quarter-final is hard to take in.

“It is hard to almost put into words really,” he added.

“To see what it means to everybody is unbelievable. To be here in our first tournament and be in the quarter-finals is something I don't think will sink in for a little while.

“We are just happy we are making everyone extremely proud and happy and probably denting a few bank balances.”
