GARETH Bale has dismissed suggestions that Wednesday’s Euro 2016 semi-final showdown with Portugal is about him against Cristiano Ronaldo.

Bale spoke to the media this afternoon in Dinard as Wales prepare for the last-four clash and he fielded plenty of questions on his Real Madrid teammate.

But he insists that the match – the biggest in Welsh football history – is about more than two individuals.

“It’s not about two players,” he said. “Everybody knows that really.

“It is about two nations in a semi-final, 11 men against 11 men.

“Of course he’s a fantastic player, everybody knows what he can do.

“But we have always spoken about what we do, what we do ourselves as a team. We don’t worry about the opposition.

“We know a lot of teams we’ve played against have got very good individuals but, for us, it’s about the team.

“If the team performs well we are able to shut out a lot of threats.

“The team is the star for us,” he added. “There’s no stars in our team – we all work as one.

“We all run for each other, tackle for each other, fight for each other. We are just a very close team, we all get along like brothers.

“We are having fun, here enjoying the occasion. We have no fear. We just want to go into each game playing as best we can and it’s working so far.”

Bale says the Wales players believe they can overcome Portugal and claim their place in Sunday’s final in Paris against either world champions Germany or hosts France.

“It’s going to be a very difficult game, we know that,” he conceded.

“They are in the semi-final for a reason but we are going to try and enjoy the occasion like we always have and we’ll carry on in the same way.

“We all believed from the start,” he added. “As we have said many times, we didn’t come here to make up the numbers.

“We came here to do a job, we came to do the business. Ultimately we want to win the tournament.

“We know we’re a step closer again but, the thing we keep saying time and time again, we can’t think past the semi-final now.

“We have to concentrate everything on the semi. If we can get the job done, then we can look forward to the final.”
