DREAMS of Welsh glory at Euro 2016 were left in tatters by Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal in Lyon tonight.

Ronaldo headed his side in front on 50 minutes and created the second for Nani three mintes later to put Portugal into the final in Paris on Sunday and send Wales home.

Chris Coleman's men have done the nation proud with an incredible run to the semi-finals in their first major tournament since 1958 but here's how they rated in defeat.

Wayne Hennessey: Hard to blame him for either goal. The Crystal Palace goalkeeper was mostly in control apart from nervy finale as Wales lost their shape. 7

Neil Taylor: Penned back for the most part as Portugal enjoyed the majority of the forward momentum but the Swans defender can be proud of his tournament. 7

James Collins: Aggressive approach seemed to unsettle Ronaldo early on and the Newport defender enjoyed better of the duel before being replaced by Jonny Williams. 7

Ashley Williams: While some teammates appeared to freeze on the big occasion the captain saved perhaps his best performance of the tournament until last. 8 (Star man)

James Chester: Outjumped by Ronaldo from a corner for the opening goal but has been Wales’ best defender in France and enhances his reputation tenfold. 6

Chris Gunter: The Newport-born right wing-back has also had a fine tournament and never stopped pushing and probing as the clock ticked down in Lyon. 7

Joe Ledley: Has featured in every game just weeks after breaking his leg and enhanced his cult hero status with crowd-pleasing dance moves but not at his most effective here. Replaced by Sam Vokes. 6

Andy King: Chosen ahead of Jonny Williams in midfield and could have two goals thanks to intelligent runs into box but Aaron Ramsey’s creativity was badly missed. 7

Joe Allen: Some sloppy touches early on led to yellow card and could have been sent off at the death but for a lenient referee. Never really reached the heights that he has in recent weeks. 6

Gareth Bale: Panicked the Portugal defence when running at them and had several attempts on target but it never really happened for him or Wales on a frustrating night. 7

Hal Robson-Kanu: Showed good strength and touch in thankless lone striker role and created good chance for King. Unfortunate to be replaced by Simon Church. 7
