BEDWAS head coach Steve Law believes there is “no room for error” as his side look to keep their Principality Premiership play-off dreams alive this weekend.

The Bridge Field men make the short trip away to Cardiff having not played a competitive game for a month after British and Irish Cup fixtures and Wales’ autumn internationals left them kicking their heels.

Their last league game saw them rack up an impressive 29-13 home win over Llandovery, a triumph which has lifted them up to sixth-place in the 12-team league and still very much in the mix for a top-three play-off spot.

But that realistic aspiration could take a serious dent if they are beaten at Cardiff Arms Park tomorrow (SAT).

Bedwas are more than capable of mixing it with the best in the Premiership.

That was demonstrated when they nearly toppled league and cup holders Pontypridd 16-13 at their Sardis Road lair in early November.

The enforced lay-off has been a pain for Law and his team but they realise only too well that many others have been in the same boat.

“It has been difficult to keep the motivation going over the past month, but it’s been the same for so many other teams,” he said.

“We mustn’t grumble, but the situation has been far from ideal.

“In saying that, we had a good run out against Beddau last week (a friendly at home to the Swalec Division One East Central leaders was won 59-7) which was very productive.

“I have to say we are happy at where we are at the moment and we’re in a good place with everyone reasonably fit in our squad.”

Their opponents this weekend the Blue and Blacks are enjoying a rich vein of form after winning four of their last five league matches and are seven points ahead of Bedwas in fourth position.

Law emphasised his men have to get something out of their clash in the capital city to ensure they don’t get left behind the chasing pack.

He said: “There’s no doubt about it, we have made things difficult for ourselves with such a poor start to the season, but we aren’t that far off the play-offs – but there’s no room for error now.”

And it’s a fixture he is eagerly anticipating.

“It’s great to go to Cardiff Arms Park for a pre-Christmas game,” he added.

“They are playing well, having had some good results lately and they are playing an attractive brand of rugby.

“It’s certainly going to be a tough ask, but we’re really looking forward to the challenge.”
