ABERGAVENNY prop Rhys Davies has signed a first team contract with South Wales Scorpions.

The 18-year-old has been in the Scorpions' academy since 2012 and has represented Wales at under-18 level and at the Commonwealth Championships when Wales took the bronze in Glasgow.

Davies said: "It's a great achievement for me. I've been playing through the age grade at the club and I'm glad to get selected for the Scorpions first team.

"I would like to thank coaches Mike Grady and Paul Emanuelli for the opportunity.

"I've still got lots to learn, I'm still young and I've plenty of hard work to do to get through and develop myself as a player, but currently I'm enjoying pre-season with the squad and I can't wait for the season to start."

Tickets for the biggest day of South Wales Scorpions' 2015 season are already available.

They take on North Wales Crusaders in the Big Welsh Derby at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Sunday, May 10 as part of a triple-header featuring a junior game and fixture between Cardiff City Rugby League and Valley Cougars.
