BEDWAS aim to avoid more last-gasp heartbreak when they head to Neath in the Principality Premiership tomorrow afternoon, writes Chris Kirwan.

It will come as scant consolation to the Bridge Field outfit that a pair of determined displays against title contenders could easily have left them reflecting on tight wins rather than narrow defeats.

They pushed Cardiff all the way when beaten 22-20 at the Arms Park and last week were edged out on their own turf 12-11 by Ebbw Vale, with fly-half Richard Powell wide with potential winning kicks on both occasions.

Bedwas will hope that it's a different story at the Gnoll against a Neath side that have recently shown signs of life to climb off the bottom of the table.

The Welsh All Blacks beat Newport at Rodney Parade despite playing with 14 men following ex-Dragons prop Aaron Coundley's red card, pushed Cardiff hard, earned a bonus point in defeat to Bridgend and last week beat Aberavon in a Boxing Day encounter in Port Talbot.

"We haven't got major issues but just need to start winning tight games," said head coach Steve Law, whose side sit in seventh place.

"We could have won every game apart from Aberavon and that's the difference between being at the top and being in mid-table.

"We could so easily have won against Cardiff and Ebbw Vale and it does knock the confidence a bit. I feel for the boys because there was no lack of endeavour.

"But that's the way it goes in sport and we don't have time to dwell on matters, we got to the Gnoll and it's going to be a tough game.

"They are resurgent and have been boosted by players coming back from injury but we are looking forward to it and are excited by the challenge."
